San Francisco is situated on the west coast of California just north of Los Angeles. Alcatraz Island is a former prison isolated in the middle of the bay surrounded by freezing cold water and strong currents, which made it inescapable. There are tours of Alcatraz each day. San Francisco's 130-year-old cable cars are one of San Franciscos' most famous attractions; they are also the world's only working and surviving system of cable cars. San Franciscos' climate is Mediterranean with warm summers and cold winters.
