Dubai is situated in the Middle East and is one of the seven Emirates, which make up the United Arab Emirates. Famous for its sand, sun and shopping, it was once a tranquil town of coral-and-gypsum courtyard houses built by Persian traders and palm-frond huts housing Bedouin fisherman and pearl divers. Today skyscrapers reflect the mosques and wind towers of Old Dubai. Dubai has some of the whitest sandiest beaches in the world, the temperature of the ocean ranges from 22°C in winter up to 35°C in summer.
Dubai has the three biggest man made islands in the world, the Palm Islands; Palm Jumeirah, the Palm Jebel Ali, and the Palm Deira were made entirely from the seabed of Dubai and have many tourist attractions and apartments. There is also another group of man made islands called The World, which are 300 islands constructed in the shape of each country of the world. Dubai will also have the world’s first luxury underwater hotel called Hydropolis, which is still under construction; guests will be able to experience living underwater.
For a glimpse of the way Dubai used to be, visit the old Bastakiya district where the narrow streets reminisce of days gone by and the old wind towers were the mark of Dubai.
