Barbados has many long stretches of white sandy beaches and clear warm Caribbean water as well as exotic pink sandy beaches. Barbados is a coral island and the sand on its beaches is made from the coral reefs being ground into to fine powder over many years. The beaches on the island can be divided into four different coastal regions with each one different from the other.
North and East Coast Beaches
The North and East coast beaches in Barbados face on to the Atlantic Ocean where giant waves crash onto the shore and coral of the island where swimming is not recommended unless experienced. These coastal beaches are popular among surfers where the waters are choppy and wild perfect for surfing activities.
West Coast Beaches
The beaches on the West Coast of Barbados are situated just north of Bridgetown where there are many luxury beach resorts, the west coast is known as the Platinum coast because of its fantastic beaches where the water is calm and the beaches have endless stretches of golden sand. The beaches along the west coast also have fantastic underwater scenery and diving and snorkelling are popular water sports.
South Coast Beaches
The South Coast of Barbados has something for everyone; the beaches of the south coast combine the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean with water calm enough for watersports that include everything from diving and snorkelling to jet skiing and wind surfing. With fantastic scenery the beaches are perfect for a relaxing holiday as well as being livelier than the west coast but a lot more laid back than the North and East coasts.
