Sydney Aquarium

The Sydney Aquarium is situated on the eastern side of the Darling Harbour just north of Pyrmont Bridge, open since 1988 the aquarium is one of the biggest in the world.  The Aquarium features a large variety of marine life including 650 species and more than 6,000 individual fish and other sea creatures, visitors can walk through glass tunnels where sharks swim overhead, there is also a recreation of a Great Barrier reef coral environment.  The exhibits are split into four different areas; Southern Rivers, this includes the platypus habitat and the Murray-Darling river system, Northern Rivers, which includes Barramundi fish and saltwater crocodiles, Southern Ocean which has Penguins, the seal sanctuary, the Sydney harbour and the open ocean aquarium and Northern Ocean which has the Great Barrier Reef Aquarium.
