Zanzibar is situated in the East African republic of Tanzania, the country is an archipelago of islands just off the coast and is made up of Zanzibar Island, Pemba Island plus many smaller islands. Zanzibar has long stretches of white sand and palm fringed beach with clear blue waters, the country is one of the most popular beach destinations in Africa.
Zanzibar’s historic Stone Town has narrow winding streets with lively markets and colourful bazaars making it a perfect place for a cultural visit. The town is a world heritage site and one of the most unique cities in the world where most of the buildings that can be seen today were built in the 19th century. Stone Town is also a great place to buy souvenirs; the markets and shops sell everything from local handicrafts and jewellery to beautiful textiles and spices. Zanzibar's beaches are a great place for diving and snorkelling as well as dhow trips and water sports.
The climate in Zanzibar is warm throughout the whole year, along the North and East coast there are sea breezes lowering the temperature. Parts of the island receive rain showers between April and May.
