The Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti National Park is situated in the North of Tanzania; the park is one of many conservational areas within the region and one of the most popular among tourists. Many people visit Serengeti National Park to witness the migration of the wildebeest and zebra when over 2 million large animals cross the plains on a circular trek. The Serengeti region is famous for its 2,500 lions and also having the highest number of large mammals on the planet, these large mammals include cheetahs, hyenas and leopards and are a common sight for visitors when on safari. Other animals include giraffe, elephants, rhinos, hippos, baboons and wild dogs.

The combinations of diverse habitats support over 30 species of large Herbivores and around 500 different species of bird. The Serengeti region was formed from volcanic activity and over the years was sculpted by the elements into the region it is today, the ecosystem is one of the least disturbed on earth and the region is now a world heritage site.
